Treenet’s 2024 Symposium

Overview

The 2024 Treenet Symposium brought together leading experts, researchers, and practitioners in urban forestry, arboriculture, and sustainable infrastructure. Held at the National Wine Centre in Adelaide, the event spanned three days of presentations, site visits, and critical dialogue focused on advancing best practices in green infrastructure.

Wallfly was engaged to organise the conference in its entirety - delivering technical production, content and speaker support, registration, sponsorship packages, exhibitor portal, recording and editing of session content (hosted online), live Q&A and polling, delegate app, onsite portals and apps to assist the events team.  This integrated model is what sets us apart. It means we can manage every aspect of a complex event — from creative concept to flawless execution — efficiently, cohesively, and cost-effectively. With no silos between AV, digital, and logistics, our team can move fast, adapt quickly, and deliver consistent quality across every touchpoint to ensure that the symposium’s program was delivered smoothly, professionally, and sustainably. Through strategic collaboration and tailored services, Wallfly helped Treenet meet its ambitious goals for engagement, knowledge-sharing, and environmental responsibility.

Event Objectives

Treenet’s primary objectives for the 2024 Symposium were to:

  • Facilitate knowledge exchange between urban forestry professionals and researchers.

  • Showcase innovations in tree health, stormwater management, and sustainable streetscapes.

  • Strengthen sector collaboration across local government, research institutions, and private enterprise.

  • Create a seamless hybrid experience to engage both in-person and online participants.

  • Deliver a low-impact, sustainable event in alignment with Treenet’s environmental values.

The Wallfly Model

Wallfly applied its flexible, scalable delivery model, tailored to the specific needs of not-for-profits and purpose-driven organisations. Our involvement spanned:

  • Pre-event planning and technical consulting

  • On-site production and AV management

  • Speaker support and presentation coordination

  • Hybrid streaming capabilities for remote audiences

  • Sustainable equipment solutions

The model prioritised fit-for-purpose solutions, tight collaboration with the client, and an emphasis on reducing waste and emissions through smart production choices.

Collaboration and Partnerships

The success of the Treenet Symposium hinged on effective partnerships. Wallfly worked closely with:

  • Treenet’s core organising team to map the program’s structure and speaker requirements.

  • Venue staff at the National Wine Centre to integrate seamlessly with in-house systems.

  • Suppliers and technicians aligned with our sustainability ethos.

The relationship was built on clear communication, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to delivering an impactful and technically flawless event.

Wallfly’s Role

Wallfly’s specific contributions included:

  • Full technical production of the event across multiple spaces.

  • Coordination of over 30 speakers, ensuring presentations were delivered professionally and on time.

  • Live streaming and recording key sessions for post-event access.

  • Design and setup of a minimal-footprint AV system, optimised for energy efficiency and space.

Our team provided end-to-end support - from briefing presenters to managing live switches and troubleshooting on the fly - ensuring the focus remained on the content, not the logistics.

Commitment to Sustainability

Sustainability was central to our delivery:

  • We utilised rechargeable, low-energy AV systems to reduce reliance on disposable or high-wattage gear.

  • Our production approach avoided unnecessary freight, using local suppliers wherever possible.

  • We encouraged digital distribution of materials, avoiding printed programs.

  • Equipment was selected based on energy efficiency and lifecycle durability.

These choices reflected both Treenet’s mission and Wallfly’s broader commitment to environmentally responsible event delivery.

Event Results

The 2024 Treenet Symposium achieved strong outcomes:

  • Over 250 in-person attendees and 100+ virtual participants.

  • High satisfaction ratings for the quality and flow of the event.

  • Seamless speaker transitions and minimal technical downtime.

  • Increased engagement across the sector, with several new collaborations forming from the event.

The hybrid delivery model extended the reach of the content, with on-demand session recordings accessed widely in the weeks following the event.
